Instrument

Currently smartChord supports the following instruments: guitar, bass, banjo, balalaika, bouzouki, cavaquinho, mandocello, mandolin and ukulele.

Choose your instrument and adjust the settings according to your skill level. In the "basic" mode fewer kinds of chords are shown than in the "expert" mode. The change between the different modes has to be confirmed, since former individual settings may be overwritten.

Please note, that the settings under the categories "instrument" and "chords" are specific for your instrument. By changing the instrument also the associated settings are modified.

Something else: Also the accord types, witch have been fixed as your favourites are specific for the instrument you have chosen. By changing the instrument also the favourites change.

Settings instrument (eg guitar)

For each instrument there are specific settings. With the change of the instrument, you see the implied specific settings:

  • Tuning
With "tuning" you choose the tuning of your instrument. smartChord already offers different predefined tunings. Also for every instrument a custom tuning can be set. The standard tuning is always the first in the list. The custom tuning is always the second. After those the predefined tunings are sorted in alphabetical order.

  • Number of Frets
Determine how many frets your instrument has, so that only the chord options are displayed which are possible on your instrument. Are you still unsure of the location change? Then reduce the number of frets accordingly so that you only see the chords that you master.
  • Show fret notes
Is using your fretboard not yet so familiar to you that you know which string on what fret produces which tone? Then smartChord can show you the notes on the fretboard.

  • Choose sound
The different types of instruments also sound different. Select the sound that comes closest to your instrument.

Custom tuning

By choosing the "custom tuning" you get to this screen. With the buttons "+" and "-" you can reduce or increase the number of the strings. The minimum or maximum number of strings is individually specified for each instrument. With the steering wheel you can set the sound of the string. The selection is accepted as usual by going back with the "back button".

With every selection of the "custom tuning" you get to this screen to adapt the tuning.

Hint:

Is your "custom tuning" common, but not listed in the predefined tunings? Then type the name in the input field and propose it by email. We will gladly enter it to the list with the predefined tunings.
